DIPHU, May 20: In a significant show of political consolidation, leaders and workers from multiple parties including the All Party Hill Leaders Conference (APHLC), Congress, and Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during a mass joining programme held at the Hornbill Auditorium, Boksong, West Karbi Anglong on Tuesday.

The event was organized by the Duar-Amla BJP Mandal Committee and was graced by Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Shri Tuliram Ronghang, as the Chief Guest.

Welcoming the new members into the BJP, CEM Ronghang emphasized the importance of supporting the ruling government, citing numerous welfare schemes aimed at uplifting individuals and families. “From free housing and ration cards to healthcare and student scholarships, the government is delivering benefits directly to the people,” he said.

He also lauded Member of Parliament Amarsing Tisso for raising the long-standing demand for Article 244(A) — the call for an Autonomous State — in Parliament, fulfilling a key aspiration of the hill communities.

Addressing the gathering, CEM Ronghang urged everyone to pursue development and the demand for an autonomous state simultaneously, but through peaceful and democratic means. “We must not repeat the chaos of the past. Let us move forward constructively,” he remarked.

CEM Ronghang further stated that more leaders and workers from APHLC, particularly from the Lumbajong constituency, are expected to join the BJP in the coming days, indicating a growing momentum in the region in favor of the saffron party.
