BOKAJAN, June 24: The body of a six-year-old girl was recovered from a pond in Amarajan under Bokajan subdivision on Tuesday, triggering shock and suspicion in the locality.
The deceased child was the daughter of Suraj Purti and Sunita Purti, residents of a rented accommodation in the area.
According to initial reports, the girl was reported missing around noon, prompting an immediate search by family members and locals.
The body was later spotted floating in a nearby pond.
Police were informed and arrived at the scene to initiate necessary procedures.
The body was sent to Diphu for a post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
The parents of the deceased have raised suspicion over the possible involvement of the child’s maternal uncle, identified as Ranjit Basumatary, who has reportedly been missing since the incident.
Police have launched a search operation to trace Basumatary, who remains absconding at the time of filing this report.
A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
