JORHAT, June 24: A large iron structure meant for the ongoing construction of a flyover on AT Road in Jorhat collapsed on a shop at Baruah Chariali on Tueasday, causing significant damage to property.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The incident, which occurred at the busy Baruah Chariali area, has sparked concerns among residents and traders about safety measures at the construction site.
Locals have called upon the concerned authorities to immediately address the lapses and ensure that public safety is not compromised during the execution of the project.
According to reports, the shop owner has informed the district administration about the incident and urged prompt action to prevent further risks in the area.
The flyover, spanning approximately 1.5 km from Baruah Chariali to the Bhogdoi bridge on AT Road, is being built to ease traffic congestion as part of a series of infrastructure initiatives undertaken by the state government.
Following the mishap, local residents have demanded stricter safety protocols and more vigilant supervision of the ongoing construction activities to avoid similar accidents in future.
