GUWAHATI, June 26: In a swift and courageous operation, personnel from the 1st Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rescued a young man from drowning in the Brahmaputra near Uzanbazar early on Thursday morning.
According to an official statement, the incident occurred around 3:35 am when sentries of the NDRF team deployed at the Inland Water Transport (IWT) terminal in Uzanbazar heard cries for help coming from mid-river near Umananda Island.
Upon directing their searchlights, the team spotted a person struggling in the heavy currents of the river.
Without delay, Inspector Lal Ringsan and his team launched into action and successfully rescued the victim. He was administered pre-hospital treatment by the NDRF personnel.
The individual was later identified as Hazarat Ali, approximately 23 years old, son of Surbhat Ali from Mangaldoi in Darrang district.
The NDRF informed Latasil Police Station, and the victim was handed over to the police for further proceedings.
