KOKRAJHAR, July 2: The district administration of Kokrajhar celebrated Kokrajhar District Day on Saturday, marking the 40th anniversary of the district. The day-long programme took place at the auditorium hall of Science College in Kokrajhar and witnessed a large gathering.
Kokrajhar became a subdivision in 1957 and was later elevated to the status of a district on July 1, 1983. The celebration included the recognition and distribution of honorarium and certificates to 100 Bihu performers from across the Kokrajhar district. These performers had participated in the World Record Mega Bihu program held in Guwahati in April 2023. Each performer was presented with a cheque of Rs 25,000 as a token of appreciation.
Several notable personalities attended the event, including Urkhao Gwra Brahma, Assam’s cabinet minister for Handloom & Textile, Soil Conservation, and Welfare for Bodoland Development department. MLAs Lawrence Islary and Jiron Basumatary, and deputy commissioner Varnali Deka were among the prominent attendees. The celebration aimed to felicitate the district’s progress and achievements over the past four decades.
