According to local people, the victim Nasir Ali (39) was reportedly hit by the vehicle when it had been moving back.

After the incident a crowd gathered at the spot and protested alleging that negligence in safety measures during construction works and much delay in completion of the project has led to loss many lives due to accidents on the highway in the past few years

Police personnel soon arrived on the accident site and brought the situation under control. They took the body to the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital for post mortem, the report of which is awaited.

Students and several other organisations have been protesting since the past three years against alleged malpractices, inferior quality of work and delay in the execution of the project resulting in a lot of difficulties for commuters while traveling through the key road of Upper Assam.
