4 assaulted in Karbi Anglong

DIPHU, Jan 20: Unknown miscreants have assaulted four persons at the Khanari jungle under Chokihola Police Station in Karbi Anglong.

According to sources, the incident occurred when Koilamati Rangsina Teron, son of late Sorot Chandra Teron and Stephan Terang, son of Sikari Terang had gone to Khanari jungle to cut cane on January 18. While preparing food in the jungle, around 13 unknown persons arrived on the spot and asked asked them to lie down on the ground and beat them black and blue. When two other villagers arrived on the spot, they too were assaulted. The miscreants also asked the four persons to run on a steep hill and then opened blank fire.

All the four victims are residents of the Wophong village in Karbi Anglong.

The two villagers, Teron and Terang said, “We had gone to cut cane in the Khanari jungle. Some unknown miscreants, numbering around 13 asked us to lie down on the ground and beat us severely along with two other villagers who arrived at the scene. The miscreants asked us to run up the slope and opened blank fire.”

Police personnel from the Chokihola Police Station along with other villagers had rescued the four victims while they were running back to their village.

Police are currently probing the incident.
