ACTA Seminar concludes at Darrang College

TEZPUR, Feb 3: A national seminar on the subject on ‘Socio-Economic Issues and Development Dynamics in the Northeast Region of India’ concluded at the Darrang College in Tezpur in Sonitpur district on Saturday.

The seminar, also being termed as the ACTA platinum Jubilee Seminar has been organised by the Darrang College Teachers’ Unit in collaboration with the Assam College Teachers Association and Internal Quality Assurance Cell of the college.

The national seminar was inaugurated by lighting of an earthen lamp by Khageswar Borkakati , president of the Darrang College Governing Body on Friday, which was followed by the welcome address delivered by Polashmani Saikia, principal of the Darrang College.

Attending the seminar, Madhurjya Prasad Bezbarua, professor of economics of the Gauhati University emphasised on integration of economy of the seven states of the Northeast for overall economic development of the area of the region. He also stressed on the need of launching inter-state packages for the development of the tourism industry in the area.

“The problems of the different communities of the state cannot be solved by giving them homeland only. We must move forward with all the communities and ethnic groups and address their socio-economic issues to bring development to the entire Northeast area. There should be a maximum involvement of the younger generation in the industrial and commercial sector, which will accelerate the development of the economy of the Northeast,” said Bezbarua.

Biren Das, registrar of the Tezpur University launched the collection of the abstracts of the research papers scheduled that were presented during the seminar. He hoped that the seminar would show us the ways of solution to different problems with their findings. A total of 101 researchers from 45 universities of the country presented their papers in the seminar.

Attending the programme Jayanta Barua, newly elected president of ACTA felt the need of government’s attention in appointment of vice-chancellors in the state universities of the state from the among the veteran academicians of the state.

Chittaranjan Baruah, coordinator of the seminar organising committee briefed on the researcher papers to be presented in the seminar in different sessions.
