Union minister for information and broadcasting ashwini vaishnaw will inaugurate the transmitter via video conferencing during a ceremony held in Guwahati.

The event will be attended by Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma , and AIR director general Pragya Paliwal Gaur, among other dignitaries.

Simultaneously, a program will also be held at the Kokrajhar Science College Auditorium, where BTR chief executive member, Pramod Boro, Kokrajhar MP Joyanta Basumatary, Rajya Sabha MP Rwngwra Narzary, and other prominent figures will participate.

Established in 1999 with a 20-kilowatt medium wave transmitter, AIR Kokrajhar later added a 100-watt FM transmitter.

However, much of the region remained underserved. The newly constructed FM transmitter, built at a cost of ₹5.61 crore, will utilise an existing Doordarshan tower and cover a 70-kilometer radius, benefiting an estimated 3 million people in Kokrajhar and neighbouring districts, including Bongaigaon, Dhubri, Chirang, and Goalpara.

From now on, listeners in these areas will be able tune in to 102 MHz for high-quality FM broadcasts.

AIR Kokrajhar will continue offering entertainment, educational, and informational programs in Bodo and other regional languages, catering to the diverse linguistic communities of the region.

This development has been widely welcomed by the people of western Assam.
