GUWAHATI, March 10: All India United Democratic Front chief Badruddin Ajmal has launched a sharp attack on Congress over the candidature of Rockybul Hussain in the Dhubri Lok Sabha seat.
Although the Congress party has not declared its candidates for the Lok Sabha polls, speculations are rife that the grand old party may give a ticket to Rockybul Hussain to challenge Ajmal in the Dhubri Lok Sabha seat.
Hussain, a former minister in the Tarun Gogoi cabinet, is believed to be a strong contender against Ajmal in Dhubri.
The AIUDF leader told the press, ‘‘I have been in politics for the last 20 years. For three years, I served as an MLA, and I have been representing the Dhubri Lok Sabha seat since 2009. Rockybul Hussain hardly comes to Dhubri for a few hours. He never spends a night there.’‘
Ajmal also argued that the AIUDF is set to perform well in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
‘‘We will definitely win three seats. The Congress party will become zero in Assam this time,’‘ he said.
Notably, the Congress has not announced candidates for the Lok Sabha. The Assam Cong president Bhupen Borah said, ‘‘The Congress high command will announce candidates on March 11.’‘
