DIPHU, June 4: Amarsing Tisso of the BJP has emerged victorious in the 6 Diphu (ST) Parliamentary Constituency, securing a significant victory margin of 1,47,603 votes over Independent candidate J I Kathar.
Tisso garnered a total of 3,34,620 votes, solidifying his position as the elected representative.
While the victory of Tisso was evident, counting processes were still underway in four election districts such as Karbi Anglong, Bokajan, West Karbi Anglong, and Dima Hasao. As of 8 pm, BJP candidate Amarsing Tisso maintained a substantial lead of 1,46,151 votes over his closest rival, the independent candidate JI Kathar, who was backed by the All Party Hills Leaders Conference (APHLC).
In the Karbi Anglong election district, encompassing the Diphu and Howraghat LA segments, counting was conducted at ISBT, Chutianala. Similarly, in Bokajan, with a single LA segment, counting took place at the Government HS school premises.
On the other hand, the West Karbi Anglong election district, consisting of the Rongkhang and Amri LA segments, witnessed counting activities at the Hamren Government HS school. Meanwhile, in the Dima Hasao election district, comprising the Haflong LA segment, counting occurred at the DC office in Haflong.
Counting of votes for the Diphu and Howraghat LA segments at ISBT, Chutianala, commenced at 8 am. By 8 pm, Tisso secured 3,31,109 votes, while JI Kathar garnered 1,84,958 votes.
In addition to the prominent contenders, the Congress candidate Joyram Engleng accrued a vote count of 1,24,019. Meanwhile, the Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) candidate John Barnard Sangma received 11,279 votes, and the Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) candidate Jotson Bey obtained 9,633 votes.
The significance of NOTA (None of the Above) votes was notable, with a total of 16,259 voters choosing this option.
