Assam Assembly standing committee reviews development initiatives in Nagaon

NAGAON, June 12: A delegation from the Assam Legislative Assembly’s Department-related Standing Committee, led by its Chairman and Tinsukia MLA Sanjay Krishan, visited Nagaon district on Thursday to assess the implementation of government schemes and review developmental progress across sectors.

The visit began with a review meeting held at the District Commissioner’s office, chaired by District Commissioner Narendra Kumar Shah.

At the outset of the meeting, the attendees observed a two-minute silence in memory of those who lost their lives in the recent Ahmedabad plane crash.

Heads of various departments presented progress reports and ongoing initiatives in the district during the meeting.

The Chairman of the Committee emphasised the need for efficient and effective execution of government schemes to strengthen Nagaon’s development trajectory, both within Assam and in the broader national context.

Ahead of the meeting, the committee members visited several key locations in the district, including Nagaon Medical College, the Bamboo Chipping Unit at Niz Borbhogia, Kamala Oil Mills in Borbhogia, Salna Tea Estate, the Farmer Producer Company (FPC) at Benganati, a dairy farm on Laokhowa Road, and the office of the Joint Director of District Health Services.

The committee reviewed the status of works and infrastructure at these sites.

Committee members Pramod Borthakur (MLA, Biswanath), Diplu Ranjan Sarma (MLA, Samaguri), and Manoranjan Talukdar (MLA, Sarbhog) were also present during the visit. District Development Commissioner Debajani Choudhury, Deputy Secretary Dipali Pegu, Under Secretary Nibesh Chakraborty, and several other officials attended the review meeting.
