DIPHU, Aug 7: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, announced during a video conference with District Administrations and Heads of Educational Institutions on Wednesday that the Assam government will launch the “Mukhya Mantri Nijut Moina” (MMNM) scheme.
The launch will take place on August 8, at 11:00 AM from Guwahati.
The Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Assam, will arrange a live telecast of the ceremonial launch of the press conference held by the Chief Minister regarding the MMNM Scheme 2024.
This telecast will be watched by educational institutions across the district, with arrangements made by the District Administrations and Educational Institutions.
Local Guardian Ministers, Members of the Legislative Assembly, and in Autonomous Council areas, the Chief Executive Member and Executive Members will attend as guests.
On the launch day, forms will be distributed to female students who have been admitted to the first year of Higher Secondary, Bachelor Degree, and Post Graduate Degree programs.
These students will receive financial assistance of Rs 1,000, Rs 1,250, and Rs 2,500 respectively, for 10 months each year.
Forms will be distributed during the ceremonial launch and can be submitted to the nodal officer of the respective institutions within a week for uploading on the “Samarth and Darpan” web portal.
Parental consent is required for form submission, and receiving financial aid is not mandatory.
The assistance will not be extended to private colleges and institutions, nor to married female students.
In the Karbi Anglong District, there are 11 government colleges and 22 higher secondary institutions, including Venture and B.Ed Education Institutions.
Preparations for the launch have been completed in all 33 institutions and colleges, as informed by Nirola Phanchopi, ACS, District Commissioner, Karbi Anglong.
The MMNM scheme aims to empower girls and prevent child marriages by providing financial aid and educational opportunities to around 10 lakh girls in government institutions.
The government has allocated Rs 240 crore for this scheme, targeting 2,33,000 girls in Assam, reflecting the government’s commitment to protecting girls’ rights and improving society.
