Golaghat, Jan 23: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the affected families of Bocha Bharalua village on Tuesday who had suffered losses in a tragic bus accident earlier this month.
The accident resulted in 12 deaths and several injuries when a bus carrying a group of 45 picnic-goers collided with an oncoming coal-laden truck at Balijan near Dergaon in the Golaghat East tehsil of Assam’s Golaghat district.
During his visit, the chief minister met the families of the deceased, extended his condolences, and announced financial assistance packages of Rs 2 lakhs each for the families.
The accident occurred around 5 am on national highway 37. Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister also distributed ration cards to beneficiaries in Golaghat’s Dergaon.
He later addressed the media about Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Assam with 3,000 people and 200 vehicles, expressing concerns about potential disruptions in Guwahati and announcing plans to file a criminal case against Gandhi following investigations after the Lok Sabha elections.
