Tinsukia, May 11: A pair from Kakopathar in Assam’s Tinsukia district, identified as Achyut Neog and Mamata Neog, have reportedly deserted their ancestral home and their four-year-old daughter to join the proscribed organisation United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I).

The child is currently in the custody of her grandparents in Dirak Kapatoli village. Sources indicate that the couple has travelled to ULFA-I bases in Myanmar.

This news has shocked many, particularly Achyut’s father, Sanmon Neog, a former ULFA member who abandoned the group in 1993 to reintegrate into society.

Earlier this year, in January, a junior technician from the Indian Institute of Technology-Guwahati, Gautam Gogoi, reportedly joined ULFA-I, as per reports. Gogoi hails from Amguri in the Sivasagar district of Assam.
