GUWAHATI, July 3: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday undertook a detailed review of the progress and implementation of several key government welfare schemes in Udalguri district and directed officials to ensure their speedy execution and wider public outreach.
According to an official statement, the Chief Minister chaired a review meeting at the District Commissioner’s office and assessed the implementation status of flagship initiatives including ‘Orunodoi 3.0’, ‘Mukhya Mantrir Mahila Udyamita Abhijan’, ‘Mukhya Mantrir Atmanirbhar Asom Abhijan’, and ‘Eti Koli Duti Paat’.
Sarma urged district officials to harness the potential of these schemes to raise the standard of living across all sections of society.
He specifically directed the Deputy Commissioner and concerned departments to intensify implementation efforts and ensure last-mile connectivity so that every deserving beneficiary is covered.
He further advised the administration to promote mass awareness about the schemes to enable wider participation and benefits.
Reviewing ‘Orunodoi 3.0’, the Chief Minister noted that the number of beneficiaries in Udalguri has increased from 58,000 to 1.17 lakh under the third phase of the scheme.
He asked the DC to ensure all eligible individuals are brought under the ambit of this vital social security initiative.
He also stressed the need for the administrative machinery to ensure a smooth and effective rollout.
In his review of the ‘Mukhya Mantrir Mahila Udyamita Abhijan’, Sarma emphasised the role of Self Help Groups (SHGs) in economic empowerment.
He reiterated that each selected SHG member would receive phased financial support — Rs 10,000 as seed capital in the first year, Rs 25,000 in the second year (split equally between interest-free loan and government subsidy), and Rs 50,000 in the third year to scale up business activities.
The Chief Minister instructed the DC to ensure all preparatory steps are completed in time, as 1.7 lakh women will be supported under the scheme.
He also reviewed the ‘Mukhya Mantrir Atmanirbhar Asom Abhijan’, under which approximately 2,500 youth from Udalguri are expected to benefit with financial assistance of Rs. 2 lakh each.
He directed district officials to make all necessary arrangements to ensure timely disbursement and effective utilisation of funds.
Addressing the ‘Eti Koli Duti Paat scheme’, launched to coincide with the bicentennial celebrations of Assam’s tea industry, Sarma said that the government will provide a one-time payment of Rs. 5,000 to all permanent and temporary Class III and IV workers of tea gardens.
He instructed the DC to prepare a comprehensive database of tea garden workers in the district and to oversee the proportional distribution of beneficiaries across Udalguri, Bhergaon, Tangla, and Majbat subdivisions.
He also reviewed the functioning of the district-level implementation committee to ensure effective execution.
The meeting was attended by several senior leaders and officials, including Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly Biswajit Daimary, Minister for Water Resources Pijush Hazarika, Mangaldoi MP Dilip Saikia, Deputy CEM of BTC Gobindo Basumatary, Udalguri MLA Charan Boro, and Principal Secretary of BTR Akashdeep.
Later in the day, the Chief Minister also met with representatives of various organisations, including the All Koch Rajbongshi Students’ Union (AKRSU), All Assam Koch Rajbongshi Sanmilani, All Bathou Mahasabha, All Adivasi Students’ Association, and the Assam Rabha Students’ Union at the Circuit House in Udalguri.
During the interaction, he listened to their concerns and assured appropriate solutions in a time-bound manner.
