The meeting served as a platform for a dynamic dialogue on the evolving media landscape and the vital role of journalism in driving socio-economic development in both states.

Governor Ravi warmly welcomed the delegation and engaged in an in-depth discussion about the challenges and opportunities facing the media environments of Assam and Tamil Nadu. The Governor stressed the importance of regional media in promoting public awareness and bridging cultural gaps.

As a symbol of Assam’s rich cultural heritage, the delegation presented the Governor with traditional Assamese mementos, including a brass Xorai and Japi, and a handloom Assamese Gamucha. The Gamucha, sourced from the North Eastern Handicrafts and Handloom Development Corporation (NEHHDC), is distinguished by its Geographical Indication (GI) tag and a QR barcode, which allows for traceability and verification of its authenticity and the artisans who created it. This innovative approach by NEHHDC highlights the blend of traditional craftsmanship with modern technology.

During the discussion, Governor Ravi underscored the special relationship between Tamil Nadu and Assam, announcing the upcoming establishment of a Tamil diploma course at Gauhati University, a significant step towards fostering cultural exchange and educational collaboration between the two states. He also highlighted Tamil Nadu’s digital transformation and its reputation as a hub for medical tourism, driven by the state’s emphasis on education and skilled human resources.

He also commended the Irula tribes for their role in sustainable environmental practices, particularly in venom extraction and negotiating fair prices with pharmaceutical companies. Emphasizing the power of digital connectivity, he remarked that geographical distance should not hinder progress in today’s information age.

This meeting marked a meaningful exchange of ideas and reaffirmed the strong cultural and educational ties between Assam and Tamil Nadu, highlighting the importance of inter-state cooperation in building a stronger, more unified India.

Before the meeting the Governor, the team visited the world largest railway coach factory in Chennai. Coaches of Vande Bharat are manufactured in this factory. The delegation could see 15,000 thousand employees working in the factory. The factory has been manufacturing 3000 coaches per year.

After meeting the Governor the team visited Chennai Metro and interacted with the Chief GM (PP&D CMRL) Thiru T Livingstone Eliazer.
