The meeting was presided over by Hiradhoni Kisan, retired headmaster of Kamba Pocha Bill Primary School, Ledo, while John Hans, president of the Amrit Gaon Village Defence Party, presented the aims and objectives of the event.
Shyam Upadhyay, SW DCPO Tinsukia, expressed concern over the prevalence of child labour, child marriage, child trafficking, and other child-related issues in the tea garden and Adivasi areas of the Margherita sub-district. He attributed these problems to alcohol consumption, which has disrupted many families, and urged the community to dial 1098 if they encounter such issues.
Nitu Changmai emphasised that the consumption of alcohol, drugs, and other addictive substances has led to a rapid increase in child labor, child marriage, child trafficking, and other child-related issues in the tea garden and Adivasi areas. He appealed to the residents of Amrit Gaon, Ledo, to abstain from these substances, warning that their continued use could destroy the youth of these communities. He added that strict action would be taken against those found selling illicit liquor and hooch in the Amrit Gaon area, with no leniency.
Sanjay Barla remarked that, even after 77 years of independence, the tea garden and Adivasi communities in Assam have seen little progress, largely due to alcohol and substance abuse. He urged the residents of Amrit Gaon to steer clear of addictive substances.
The meeting was moderated by John Hans, secretary of the Amrit Gaon Village Defence Party. At the conclusion, the residents of Amrit Gaon pledged to abstain from consuming alcohol and other addictive substances.
