Basudha Mitra Award for outstanding farmer Amarshing Basumatary

TEZPUR, Feb 9: The ‘Shristi International Society’, a pioneer social organisation, has announced its prestigious award, the ‘Basudha Mitra’, to the ideal farmer of the region, Amarshing Basumatary, for this session. It is to be mentioned here that SIS instituted the award in memory of late Paban Nath, a resident of Tezpur-Chandmari area, a progressive businessman, and a successful martial artist of the region who left for his heavenly abode untimely on June 1, 2019. The NGO has been conferring the award since 2020 to figures who have praiseworthy contributions to the field of agriculture/farming, entrepreneurship, and industry.

Amarshing Basumatary, nominated for the award for this session, is an educated youth residing in No-1 Salbari-Bangaon, Shantipur (BTR), and has been promoting organic farming in the region. A recipient of several awards by different organisations of the state, he has exported his organic products to different parts of the nation and even abroad till date. His farming area in Chirang district with different leafy green vegetables and other agricultural activities remains a spectacular hotspot for visitors round the year. People connected with the Shristi International Society mentioned to this correspondent that the award would be presented to the brilliant farmer on February 10 formally in a brief function at the residence of the recipient in Chirang district.

In its first session, SIS conferred the award on Atul Lahkar, a progressive businessman who has excelled in the business of ethnic food (North Eastern), making it a brand in the international arena. The second recipient of the award was a woman farmer of Jorhat, Nabanita Das, popularly known as ‘Pothar Kanya’. A resident of village Potia Fokola Gaon in Jorhat district, she was awarded by the NGO for her splendid farming act. Likewise, in 2022, Purnima Devi Barman was awarded by the NGO for her work in this line, while Anup Kumar Sarma, a noted pisciculturist of Narayanpur area, was honoured with the prestigious award.
