GUWAHATI, Aug 17: The flood situation in Assam continued to show signs of improvement even though the Brahmaputra continued to flow above the danger level at Dhubri, Tezpur and Nimatighat.
According to an official bulletin of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), approximately 11,820 individuals are still grappling with the effects of the deluge across four districts on Thursday.
According to the latest flood report issued by the ASDMA, the districts of Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, and Sivasagar continue to be affected by the floodwaters. Among these, Sivasagar is the hardest hit with nearly 10,890 people bearing the brunt of the floods.
In comparison to the previous day, the number of affected people has decreased. On Wednesday, over 13,800 people were reported to be impacted by the floods across five districts.
Fortunately, no new fatalities were reported, keeping the total number of flood-related deaths this year at 14.
The ongoing flooding has resulted in the damage to 2,047 hectares of agricultural land on Thursday, as stated by ASDMA.
Significant damage to roads were reported from Karimganj.
Erosion has been particularly significant in Bongaigaon, Dhubri, Golaghat, Kamrup, Kokrajhar and Morigaon on Thursday, the ASDMA bulletin stated.
