DIPHU, April 8: Congress campaigned in the Chinthong Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) constituency in West Karbi Anglong for the ensuing second phase of parliamentary elections in Assam on April 26. The Congress claimed that more than 300 workers and supporters of BJP have joined them.
Alom Rongpi, the spokesperson of the West Karbi Anglong District Congress Committee (WKADCC), stated on Sunday that over 300 strong supporters of BJP had joined the Congress during the joining program held at Umlapher and Ummat.
At Umlapher, 120 families, including village headmen who were supporters of BJP, joined Congress. Similar joining programs were also conducted at Hawang, Umsapho, and Rongnagar. Joining programs have been conducted in five polling stations.
The joining program was attended by president WKADCC, Sing Teron; vice president, Rupsing Bongrung; secretary Manik Engti; IT Cell chairman, Robin Ronghang, and other leaders of the party.
