Guwahati, Jan 11: The Congress party has criticised the Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government’s last 10 years in power, accusing it of causing severe harm to the Indian people, democracy and constitution.
The party issued a list of ‘injustices’ on Thursday, including increased unemployment, price rise, betrayal of farmers, discrimination against weaker sections, atrocities against women, mismanagement of COVID-19, failure of Make in India initiative, inequality, mishandling of issues with China, terrorism and weakening of democracy.
The party alleges that the number of jobless people has tripled from 1 crore in 2012 to 4 crore in 2022 and that household savings are at a 50-year low due to GST on essential commodities.
The congress also accused the government of forcing farmers to protest by introducing three ‘black laws’, resulting in the martyrdom of 750 farmers. They further blamed the government for an increase in crimes against Dalits, Adivasis and women, and for the devastating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic due to unplanned lockdowns and mismanagement.
The party also criticised the government for promoting inequality, mishandling issues with China, and for weakening democracy by using money power and threats of investigation to induce MLAs to switch from opposition-led state governments.
