DEMOW, Aug 10: A robbery incident occurred in Debpur Gaon near Demow on July 31 at the residence of Pabitra Kalita and Sarju Kalita, both teachers. A gang of miscreants, claiming affiliation with ULFA (I), carried out the robbery. The gang, consisting of four individuals armed with guns and sharp weapons, robbed cash and gold ornaments from the residence.
Following the incident, the police initiated an investigation and launched a search operation to apprehend the culprits. Acting on this, a team led by the additional superintendent of police of Sivasagar district and the Demow police conducted a search operation in various areas of Demow on Tuesday night. As a result, all four dacoits were apprehended.
During the operation, the police seized a red Swift car (registration number AS 04 AE 8848) that was used by the dacoit gang. The arrested individuals have been identified as Amarjit Kalita from Athabari Bangali Gaon, Jiba Gogoi from Demow Maskara, Sumendra Barua, and Mintu Chetia from Demow Barua Changmai Gaon.
On Wednesday, the four dacoits were produced in the Sivasagar Court, and they are currently in Demow police custody for further investigation. The successful apprehension of these individuals is a significant step towards ensuring the safety and security of the local community.
