District level Khel Maharan kicks off in Biswanath

BISWANATH CHARIALI, Dec 29: The district-level Khel Maharan event for Biswanath district, covering LACs of Biswanath, Gohpur, and Behali, commenced on Friday at Kamalakanta Khetra. A total of 216 players from these three LACs participated in the grand sports event. Dr Neha Yadav, commissioner of Biswanath and chairman of Biswanath district Khel Maharan, inaugurated the event by hoisting the flag. The inaugural session featured addresses by MLA Pramod Borthakur and a welcome speech by Dr Neha Yadav.

During the ceremony, the Olympic Torch was illuminated in the presence of notable figures such as Biswanath SP Subhasish Baruah, CEO Biswanath Diganta Boishya, Zila Parishad chairman Labanya Charengiya, vice chairman of Animal Husbandry Paresh Borkakaty, SDO (C) Gohpur Lukumani Bora, Amarjyoti Borthakur, chairman of Biswanath Town Committee, and district sports officer Ankur Pathak, among others. Commissioner Dr Neha Yadav administered the oath-taking ceremony.

The inaugural session featured an impressive march past by NCC cadets from Behali Degree College, JNV Biswanath, and Dakhin Nagsankar High School, along with players from the three LACs. Cultural teams showcased their talents through various performances, adding vibrancy to the event. The district committee felicitated 16 sports personalities from Biswanath district during the ceremony.

Following the inaugural session, athletic and kabaddi events were held as part of the ongoing sports extravaganza. The closing ceremony is scheduled for December 30, as per a press release. The Khel Maharan serves as a platform to highlight and nurture the sporting talents of the region, bringing the community together through the spirit of sportsmanship.
