Disturbing drug nexus exploits minors, triggers alarm in Moirabari

MORIGAON, June 11: In a deeply troubling incident that has sent shockwaves throughout the district, a drug nexus case has come to the forefront in Moirabari. This revelation comes at a time when the state government has initiated an anti-drug pilot project as part of the Nasamukta Bharat Abhiyaan, with the aim of eradicating drugs and ensuring a drug-free Moirabari. The incident has sparked widespread concern and alarm among the community.

According to available information, two minors, a 16-year-old girl and her 13-year-old brother, are siblings in relation. They are homeless and have been living at Moirabari Railway Station temporarily. On several occasions, both the siblings were spiked with drugs and were molested.

This incident came to light as the minor girl accused two duos famous for their notoriety – Ropshan Khan and Rakibur Rahman of Moirabari Railway station were involved with an incident while she was at Child Care Home, Guwahati. When the police became aware of the incident, the notorious duo involved the minors in prostitution for thriving the drug nexus at greater Moirabari area in the district on June 1, 2023. But the siblings were able to escape mysteriously from the child care home on June 5, 2023.

The minors who were tested before they escaped the child care facility were tested positive with AIDS. The whereabouts of the minors have not been determined. The accused Ropshan Khan, of late, is at Nagaon jail custody as he was caught red-handed by the public while he went to sell drugs at Dhing a few weeks ago.
