Draft delimitation for panchayat polls to be published on August 30: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

GUWAHATI, Aug 1:  Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said that the draft for the delimitation of panchayats will be published on August 30 and the final notification is scheduled to be out on September 17.

Panchayat polls which are due in Assam for the last one year will take place in December.

“Delimitation of Gaon Panchayats commenced on third week of July this year and the draft will be published on August 30,” Sarma shared this information on micro-blogging site X.

He further informed that the block reorganisation and delimitation of Anchalik Panchayats will be done on September 6 and delimitation of Zilla Parishad (ZP) and publication of draft delimitation of ZPs to be done on the same date.

It is worth mentioning that the district administrations will arrange a public hearing on the delimitation exercise between September 7 and 16.

“The final notification of the whole process will be published on September 17,” he added.

The chief minister also mentioned that delimitation at panchayat levels will be done aligning with the pattern of assembly segments and the exercise will give boost governance at the grassroot level.

 “To strengthen democracy in grassroots and give filip to governance at local level, closely aligned with present day constituencies, we are undertaking a delimitation exercise of GPs, APs and ZPs which will be followed by Panchayat elections within Dec,” he said.
