SIVASAGAR, Sept 2: At a time when the temperature is still
around 35 degrees celsius, erratic power supply by the APDCL
has irked the consumers of Sivasagar.
Many social and student organisations have taken to the
streets to protest the failure of the APDCL to supply the power
regularly. AASU carried out demonstrations in front of the ADCL
officers in Sivasagar, Demow, Amguri, etc. places on Thursday.
Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi on Saturday lambasted the BJP
government for not respecting their own pre-election
commitment of supplying 24-hour power to every household.
He said that he, being the chairman of the APDCL Board of the
district, has found it difficult to meet the shortage of around 6
MW power supply in Sivasagar Division as the government
supply has dropped to 8 MW Â from the committed amount of
12.5 MW. The BJP government has no money to procure the
state’s requirement of 2400 MW of power every day from the
Central grid.
Hours of load shedding, especially during the night hours have
affected the consumers, the students, and the entrepreneurs
badly. The electronic gadgets have been damaged due to
erratic power supply. The MLA demanded urgent steps by the
government to restore the uncut power supply as it is a
government responsibility.
