BOKAJAN, May 9: In a decisive move against suspected drug trafficking, the police in Karbi Anglong launched a targeted operation which led to the apprehension of five individuals and the seizure of a cache of firearms.
Acting on specific information, authorities launched an operation Thursday evening, establishing a checkpoint at the Kaliram Basti Railway Overbridge. There, they intercepted a Bolero SUV bearing registration number NL 07 CB 8179.
The vehicle underwent a meticulous search, yielding a startling discovery – a 9 mm Beretta Pistol accompanied by three magazines and 43 live ammunition.
Although the search didn’t reveal narcotics, the presence of the firearms raised significant concerns.
The occupants of the vehicle, identified as Thonga Wangsa (39), Aloto Chishi (40), Hekiho Zhimoni (45), Khukivi Aye (32), and Sattar Ali, were promptly apprehended.
The individuals hail from various regions, spanning Nagaland and Assam, indicating a potentially intricate network of illicit activities across state boundaries.
Among them, Thonga Wangsa resides in Pukha, Mon district, Nagaland; Aloto Chishi in Naharbari, Diphupar police station, Dimapur district, Nagaland; Hekiho Zhimoni in Imcomlanding, Dimapur East police station, Dimapur district, Nagaland; Khukivi Aye in Padum Pukhuri, Diphupar police station, Dimapur district, Nagaland; and Sattar Ali in Mitmari Kaopuru, Lahorighat police station, Morigaon district, Assam.
