SIVASAGAR, June 4: The flood situation in Sivasagar, which had raised concern following days of incessant rainfall and breaches at multiple sluice gates, is now under control, according to district authorities.

Prompt action by the district administration helped mitigate the crisis. On the directive of Deputy Commissioner Ayush Garg, Revenue Circle Officer (RCO) Sivasagar Nekib Sayed Barua, along with staff and personnel from the Water Resources Department, successfully repaired the breached sluice gate at Jogarahabi Mamol Mirigaon under the Sivasagar Revenue Circle. The breach had caused extensive waterlogging in the Konwarpur Mauja area on Sunday.

Similarly, sluice gates at Bakulduba and Akhoiphuyia, which had given way due to rising waters of the Desang River, were repaired by Demow RCO Akurjyoti Phukan, with support from local villagers. Materials like sandbags, wooden planks, and bamboo poles were used in the repair work. Phukan assured the public of the government’s continued support during natural calamities and personally inspected flood-affected areas including Dehingmukh, Liebill, Lason, Milonkur, and Panidihing.

Amguri RCO Arup Vikramiya reviewed ongoing embankment repair work in Dikshumukh and Namti, while Nazira RCO Chandana Baruah conducted a field inspection and assured residents of the sub-division of all necessary assistance and relief measures in case of further emergencies.

The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has activated its emergency response mechanism, alerting all Lat Mandals, Gaonburhas, AAPDA MITRAs, and relevant department heads to stay vigilant and report developments promptly throughout the monsoon season.

The administration continues to monitor the situation closely to ensure the safety and well-being of the public.
