JORHAT, July 15: Pankaj Hazarika, a forester under Mariani range of Jorhat forest division, has been suspended by the Forest Department authorities after a video clip showing him dragging the carcass of a primate while driving a motorbike went viral on Sunday.
Range officer of Mariani, Animesh Kalita, said that Hazarika was found dragging the carcass of a rhesus macaque monkey that was discovered on the Dhodar Ali beside the famous Hollongapar Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary. Kalita stated that the act of dragging the animal to a nearby camp was improper on his part, so action was taken.
The Hollongapar Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary is renowned for the hoolock gibbon, the only ape found in the country.
