DIPHU, Nov 4: A significant step towards improving the working conditions of judicial officers in Karbi Anglong district was taken on Wednesday with the foundation stone-laying ceremony for their residential quarters. The event was graced by the presence of the Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court, Justice Vijay Bishnoi.
At the ceremony, Justice Bishnoi said, “This event should not be seen in isolation, but it should be seen as a continuation of concerted efforts in improving judicial infrastructure in the state of Assam. There is no doubt that decent living conditions for judicial officers are a matter which cannot be neglected; otherwise, they will not be able to put their best into judicial work, as their minds will be unnecessarily preoccupied with residential-related problems. I am told that at present, the judicial officers posted at Diphu are residing in quarters of different departments scattered all over the town. It will always be more convenient for the officers and their families to reside in a single residential complex.”
Justice Bishnoi emphasised the importance of adequate infrastructure for the smooth functioning of the judiciary. He highlighted the need for comfortable living conditions for judicial officers to ensure their optimal performance.
The new residential complex will be located on a 1.65-bigha plot and will feature a G+4 structure. It will include amenities such as a security barrack, car parking, health facilities, and recreational grounds.
The centralised location of the residential complex will improve security for the judicial officers and their families. It will also reduce commute time to the court complex and facilitate quicker legal processes.
The complex will create a sense of community among the judicial officers, fostering professional and personal relationships.
Justice Bishnoi expressed gratitude to the state government and the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) for their support in making this project possible.
The completion of this residential complex is expected to significantly enhance the working environment for judicial officers in Diphu. It will not only provide them with comfortable housing but also contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the judicial system in the region.
Divisional Architect of PWD Diphu Building Division, Mrinal Phukonwar, said the judicial complex will be constructed with an estimated cost of Rs 8.64 crore.
