Global Iodine Deficiency Disorders Prevention Day observed in West Karbi Anglong

West Karbi Anglong, October 21: The National Health Mission, West Karbi Anglong, observed Global Iodine Deficiency Disorders Prevention Day at the JDHS Conference Hall, a press release said on Monday.

Dignitaries present were Dr. Mantu Kumar Shyam, SDM & HO (Epi), Dr. Ranjit Kr. Nath, SDM & HO (HQ), Hilton Saikia, District Programme Manager as well as ASHA Supervisor, Epidemiologist, DDM, Pharmacist, DAM, ADAM, DPC were also present.

Dr. Mantu Kumar Shyam, SDM & HO (Epi), underscored the importance of consuming iodized salt to prevent iodine deficiency disorders.

He also emphasized that iodine deficiency is a preventable health issue and called for collective action to ensure universal access to iodized salt.

Dr. Ranjit Kr. Nath, SDM & HO (HQ), highlighted NHM’s initiatives in promoting iodine supplementation and combating iodine deficiency in West Karbi Anglong.

He reaffirmed NHM’s commitment to strengthening healthcare services and promoting healthy lifestyles.

Meanwhile, Hilton Saikia, DPM, NHM West Karbi Anglong, stressed the crucial role of community involvement in combating iodine deficiency.

District Community Mobilizer Swapna Ingtipi also stressed the significance of addressing iodine deficiency, particularly among pregnant women, highlighting its crucial role in fetal development and maternal health.

She further emphasized the importance of Iodine supplementation for pregnant women to prevent birth defects and cognitive impairments.
