Governor Gulab Chand Kataria assures all help for councils’ development

Assam Governor meets officials of KAAC and NCHAC Directive issued for timely execution of schemes

GUWAHATI, July 5:  Governor Gulab Chand Kataria presided over a meeting with officials from the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) and the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) in Raj Bhavan.

During the meeting, the Governor highlighted a number of problems critical to the development of the KAAC and NCHAC districts.

Kataria stated that the autonomous council was established to meet the goals and objectives of the people who live in a certain area. As a result, it is the obligation of all public officials to go above and beyond to meet the people’s aspirations.

The Governor received a full presentation of the different regulations made by the Autonomous Council as well as the state of performance in several departments.

He also examined the government’s policies and schemes aimed at improving people’s lives.

The Governor directed KAAC Mukul Kumar Saikia, principal secretary, to investigate the literacy percentage in the tea garden areas. He also ordered him to pay special attention to the central government’s flagship plan, which is being implemented in the sixth schedule districts.

Taking keen interest in the implementation of the Mukhya Mantri Unnoto Pakipath Nirman Achoni in Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao, the Governor asked the council authorities to make dedicated efforts to ensure the scheme’s success.

Furthermore, the Governor urged the officials to prioritise the implementation of e-KYC and Aadhar-seeding in various schemes, as the lack of progress in these areas adversely affects the overall growth of the areas.

The Governor assured his support for the Councils in their endeavours to serve the people.

Similarly, the Governor directed the principal secretary, NCHAC Thai Tsho Daulagapu, and the principal secretary (N) NCHAC Debanon Daulagapu to conduct periodic reviews of the progress of various schemes such as Jal Jeevan Mission, PMAY, AADHAR seeding, and so on. He highlighted that, while the entire coverage target is within reach, officials must speed up their efforts to ensure the success of the Jal Jeevan Mission.

Furthermore, the Governor directed that meetings be scheduled with key government officials, such as the MD of Jal Jeevan Mission, in order to strategize and discover viable techniques for the scheme’s seamless implementation.

Highlighting the need for government interventions to ensure that government schemes reach the last mile of society, the Governor reiterated the need for setting up Anganwadi Centres. He also asked the councils to set up the centres on government-owned land or within government schools.

Considering the tourism potential of Dima Hasao, the Governor asked the authority to take steps to ensure the enhancement of tourist footfall in the area. The Governor said that both councils have been fulfilling their responsibilities in their respective domains. He asked the council authorities to redouble their efforts and expeditiously execute the welfare initiatives for the greater benefit of the residents residing in both councils. At the same time, he assured the councils that Raj Bhavan, Assam, would always be available to assist them.

Jahari; addl secretary (N) NCHAC Uttam Daulagapu, along with officials of KAAC and NCHAC were present in the meetings.
