Illegal Areca Nut Shipment Seized

BOKAJAN, Sept 6: In a significant operation, the police in Karbi Anglong successfully intercepted and seized an illegal shipment of dry areca nuts, commonly known as Burmese Supari, from Myanmar. This operation took place on NH 39, under the jurisdiction of the Khatkhati police station.

The police were conducting routine checks on NH 39 when they intercepted a truck at approximately 10 AM. The truck, bearing registration number AS 26 AC 1080, was traveling from Manipur and headed towards Guwahati. Upon inspection, the authorities discovered a substantial quantity of illegal dry areca nuts, totaling 2700.11 kilograms, which were packed in bags and estimated to be worth Rs 8 lakh.

Two individuals, Akbar Ali (26) and Md. Monowar Hussain (27), both residents of Barpeta, were apprehended in connection with this illegal shipment. The police are taking legal action against the suspects as part of their efforts to combat illegal activities and uphold the law.
