JORHAT, Jan 29: Protests by workers of Kamarbandha tea estate in Titabar co-district of Jorhat district continued for the second day on Wednesday with workers sticking to their demands for removal of the Manager B Pathak.
The workers through the garden unit of Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha submitted memorandum to the minister of labour welfare, tea tribes and adivasi welfare Rupesh Gowala, Jorhat district commissioner Jay Shivani, Jorhat SP Shwetank Mishra and assistant labour commissioner Rupali Pegu, seeking removal of the manager alleging threat to a worker, assaulting a driver and asking a staff to do duties of a worker.
An ACMS source informed that a discussion is likely to be held with the district administration on Thursday over the ongoing issue.
The source further informed that the copy of the memorandum had been sent to the company authorities of the tea estate based at Dibrugarh through the manager of the Tea Factory located at Rangajan in Titabar.
Tankeswar Rajput, an ATTSA Central Committee secretary for Education said that the Tea Tribes students body was fully supporting the workers.
It may be mentioned that the ALC on Tuesday during her visit to the garden urged the workers to maintain peace and order in the garden and sought a written complaint regarding their grievances.
