Karbi as official language within KAAC’s jurisdiction: CEM Tuliram Ronghang

DIPHU, Jan 28: The 33rd annual conference of Karbi Lammet Amei (KLA) – Karbi literary body, with a four-day itinerary concluded at Langpher Karbi Jutang Aklam, Volongkom Aji on Monday, which is 65 km away from here.

Participating as the chief guest in the open session on the concluding day on Monday, the chief executive member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang announced Rs 1 crore for holding of the annual general conference of KLA from KAAC budget. The CEM also announced to make Karbi language as the official language within the jurisdiction of KAAC.

He said, “KAAC was giving Rs. 5 lakhs which increased to Rs. 50 lakhs for holding KLA annual conference. It will now be Rs. 1 crore from the next conference.”

Speaking about his recent visit to Japan and South Korea, the CEM said that the people in those countries have so much love for their mother tongue, that they don’t speak other languages. If the Japanese and Koreans love their mother tongue, why not the Karbis? Each and every Karbi should speak and write Karbi language.

The CEM was accompanying the Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma during his visit to these countries a week ago.

The CEM announced that Karbi language will be made an official language within the jurisdiction of KAAC. The allotment of land for construction of offices of all regional committees and branches of KLA as demanded by KLA will also be done.

A noted writer and Karbi textbooks writer Lunse Timung was awarded with the Karbi Lammet Anong’eh, 2025.

In the meeting it was informed that the venue for the 34th annual conference, 2026 is at Bhoksong, West Karbi Anglong.

The open session was chaired by KLA president, Kamsing Hanse and attended by MP Amarsing Tisso; Executive Members of KAAC and Members of Autonomous Council, past and present KLA members; KLA general secretary, Liladhar Teron and several other prominent figures.
