Lokanayak Omeo Kumar Das College organises awareness programme on DHA

TEZPUR, May 5: The history department of the Lokanayak Omeo Kumar Das College has organised an awareness lecture programme titled ‘DHAS: A Treasure Trove of Knowledge’ at its college premises in Dhekiajuli.

The programme started with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the president of the governing body Jogendra Saikia, principal the Lokanayak Omeo Kumar Das College, Sukdev Adhikari and Sangeeta Gogoi, director-in-charge of the Directorate of Historical and Antiquarian Studies, who was also the resource person of the programme.

Sukdev Adhikari emphasised the importance of oral history and field work for the study of history in his welcome address. This was followed by a Jyoti Sangeett by Mamata Boro .

Sangeeta Gogoi in her lecture as the resource person offered an overview of DHAS highlighting the genesis and growth of the institution. She also spoke on the various projects and activities undertaken by the institute. She also highlighted the importance of collaborative effort with educational institutions.

This was followed by a lively interactive session during which Arindam Kumar Deka, Kantar Bhushan Nandi, Pabitra Barman, Jyotshna Baruah and Gogoi answered to the queries of different participants.

Earlier Dipsikha Deka, assistant professor of the department of history felicitated the resource person Jogendra Saikia and Sukdev Adhikari with a phulam gamosa and memento. Saikia in his address expressed satisfaction over the programme and suggested that similar events should be frequently organised.

The event was attended by a large number of students, teachers and two former heads of the department, Md. Riazuddin Ansari and Dhruva Jyoti Hazarika.
