DIPHU, Nov 21: A total of 131 Lower Primary (LP) teachers under the Primary Education Department of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) have resumed their agitation by boycotting classes, starting on Thursday, due to the non-payment of 15 months’ salary.

It is worth noting that the Assam cabinet approved the salaries of teachers engaged by the KAAC on September 24, 2024.

“To ensure the continuation of education of students in Karbi Anglong, the cabinet has accorded approval to payment of salaries to 131 teachers appointed by the KAAC,” said an Assam cabinet brochure shared by Sarma.

Following this, the aggrieved teachers were initially relieved by the state government’s decision and had resumed their duties, withdrawing the class boycott. However, one distressed teacher revealed that the delay in the official process, handled by a person from the Karbi Anglong Primary Teachers Association (KAPTA), has led to this renewed agitation.

“We have started our protest today by boycotting classes, even after the Assam cabinet approved the salary last September. However, we still haven’t received our pay. The person from KAPTA, who was responsible for handling the formalities for the release of our salaries, has delayed the process. He has assured us that the official work will be completed within seven days starting today. If this assurance is not fulfilled within the given time frame, we will be forced to launch another protest,” said the teacher, requesting anonymity.
