GOSSAIGAON, Aug 27: An awareness meeting was held in Gossaigaon on Monday to raise awareness about the current situation in Assam, focusing on the responsibilities of the minority community and addressing issues such as drug abuse, child marriage, and other social evils.
The meeting, organised by the Minority Coordination Committee, Gossaigaon (CCMO), took place at 2 No Bhomorabil under the Gossaigaon subdivision. Various local organisations, including AMSU, ABMSU, NEMSU, Bhomorabil Brothers Union, and Cultural Organisation, actively participated.
The meeting was presided over by Moinul Haque Pradhani, headmaster of Bhomorabil ME School, and Mizanur Rahman, general secretary (Organisational) of the Minority Coordination Committee, Gossaigaon, who explained the purpose of the meeting.
Nur Mohammad Ansari, president of ABMSU Gossaigaon District Committee; Saddam Hussain, president of NEMSU Gossaigaon District Committee; Monser Ali Sheikh, ex-president of Sapkata Cooperative Society; and Aminur Rahman, AAMSU state president, provided brief remarks on various social issues affecting the minority community, such as drug abuse, child marriage, and superstitions.
Mafizur Rahman, executive president of the Minority Coordination Committee and a prominent advocate in Gossaigaon Subdivision, discussed the need for increased awareness and outlined the actions that should be taken. He called for the punishment of the actual culprits and urged every individual in the minority community to exercise restraint. Advocate Rahman also mentioned that the Minority Coordination Committee, Gossaigaon, will continue to organise awareness meetings in various areas under the Gossaigaon subdivision.
The meeting was attended by several notable figures, including the village headman of 2 No Palashguri, Jalal Uddin Sheikh; esteemed teacher Taiyab Uddin Pramanik; Abdul Barek Sheikh; engineer Jahirul Islam; journalist Hafizur Rahman; and retired distinguished teacher Ahmed Ali Sheikh, among others. Nearly two hundred local residents attended the meeting, contributing to its success.
The entire program was coordinated by Nur Hussein, the organisational secretary of the Minority Coordination Committee, Gossaigaon.
