Dibrugarh, July 2: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the Alekhiya Ganesh Mandir, located in Naliapool, Dibrugarh, on Sunday. During his visit, Sarma offered prayers at the 200-year-old temple, seeking the blessings of Lord Shiva and Lord Ganesha before departing for Guwahati.
On this occasion, a prayer signed by the Mahant (head priest) of Sri Alakhya Ganesh Mandir and a few members of the public was submitted as a memorandum to the chief minister. The memorandum highlighted the issue of illegal encroachment and unauthorised occupation of the temple’s land by land grabbers at the Naliapool location in Dibrugarh.
According to a member of the temple, the land in question rightfully belongs to Sri Alakhya Ganesh Mandir. However, individuals have allegedly occupied a significant area of the temple’s land through forceful and unauthorised means. The memorandum stated the urgent need for eviction and recovery of the encroached land.
The temple authorities and the concerned individuals have sought the chief minister’s intervention in resolving the matter and reclaiming the encroached land, which rightfully belongs to Sri Alakhya Ganesh Mandir.
