MORIGAON, Sept 25: Minister of state for Petroleum and Natural Gas and Tourism, government of India, Suresh Gopi, visited Morigaon district and engaged in a series of notable activities highlighting the government’s commitment to the development and welfare of the region on Wednesday. The minister visited several important locations throughout Morigaon district. The day began with a visit to the Murbari public water system. He then visited Dolphin Point at Kachshila in the Mayang area. The minister also inspected the anti-erosion system by boat in the Brahmaputra river, emphasising the protection of natural resources in the area. Later, he interacted with beneficiary Junmoni Konwar at Pabitra Sanctuary and Kumai Kacharigaon, highlighting the Prime Minister’s Housing Scheme. The minister also visited the Kumai Kacharigaon Anganwadi Centre and the Kayaking and Canoeing Training Center at Charan Beel to promote sports development in the area, with a focus on healthcare and nutrition initiatives for children and women. Additionally, he visited Bakharbari to review the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampad Yojana, aimed at enhancing fisheries and aquatic resources. The primary focus of the visit was to ensure that the benefits of the government’s development programs reach the grassroots level.
After completing the site inspection, the minister arrived at the Morigaon District Commissioner Office, where he planted a neem sapling in the DC Office’s garden, naming it ‘Damudar’. He was accompanied by DC Debashis Sarma, ADCs, COs, and heads of various departments. Following this, a rally on ‘Tobacco-Free among the Young Generation’ was flagged off by the minister, which was organised by the Tobacco Control Cell and the joint director of Health, Morigaon.
Minister Suresh Gopi then proceeded to the meeting room of the district commissioner, where he attended a high-level meeting with senior officials of the district administration. The meeting was attended by the principal secretary to the state government, district commissioner Devashish Sharma, additional district commissioners, heads of various departments, and other senior officials. Discussions centred around ensuring efficient implementation of government schemes, particularly in rural and remote areas of the district. The minister urged district officers to focus on the timely completion of projects under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, and other welfare programs. At the conclusion of the meeting, the minister appreciated the cooperative efforts of the district administration and local representatives. He encouraged the officers to maintain a people-centric approach and work towards the comprehensive development of Morigaon district.
