GUWAHATI, July 8: The district authority launched the Mosquito Breeding Source Reduction Week campaign for the prevention and control of dengue in urban areas of Dima Hasao district, organised by NCVBDC, Dima Hasao Haflong, on Monday, at Lal Field, Haflong. The program was also attended by the chairperson of Haflong Municipal Board, Ripa Hojai.
This campaign aimed to educate the community on the importance of eliminating mosquito breeding sources to prevent the spread of mosquito-borne diseases. The week-long campaign, taking place during the 2nd and 4th weeks of July 2024, may be extended to rural villages depending on the situation and availability of resources.
According to the report, CMOCD Dr Paban Kr Ganju informed that last year, 853 cases of dengue were reported in the district, and this year, 25 cases have been reported to date.
Stressing the need for an awareness drive among the people, Dr Leena Hakmaosa addressed some common things that can cause mosquito breeding, such as standing water in flower pots, coconut shells, tires, and drainage water. She further requested all health workers and ASHAs to spread awareness regarding dengue and take necessary steps to prevent mosquito breeding around homes, communities, and public spaces.
