GUWAHATI, July 16: To ensure a steady supply of essential and other commodities, Northeast Frontier Railway has experienced a continuous rise in freight unloading. In June of this year, a total of 1,046 freight-carrying rakes were unloaded, marking a 4.29% increase compared to the same month last year. From April to June 2023, within the jurisdiction of NF Railway, a total of 3,383 freight-carrying rakes were unloaded.
Various goods such as FCI rice, sugar, salt, edible oil, fertiliser, cement, coal, automobiles, containers, and more were transported and unloaded in different goods sheds within NF Railway’s jurisdiction.
In June 2023, 583 rakes of freight-carrying trains were unloaded in Assam, with 308 of them loaded with essential commodities. Additionally, 78 rakes were unloaded in Tripura, 18 in Nagaland, 4 in Manipur, 10 in Arunachal Pradesh, and 6 in Mizoram. Furthermore, 188 freight rakes were unloaded in West Bengal and 159 in Bihar, all within the jurisdiction of NF Railway.
The regular transportation of essential and other commodities not only fulfills the requirements of the general public but also keeps the local economic activities thriving. The expedited execution of doubling works at key sections across NF Railway has facilitated increased inward and outward movement of freight traffic.
