Noted Tezpur resident Rup Nath Upadhyaya passes away

TEZPUR, Sept 4: Rup Nath Upadhyaya, a respected member of the Tezpur community and the eldest grandson of the renowned freedom fighter Chabilal Upadhyaya, has sadly passed away. He suffered a sudden cardiac arrest at his residence on Sunday night and was rushed to a private hospital in Tezpur, where he was pronounced dead. Upadhyaya was born on March 17, 1941, in Gangmouthan village, which was part of the former Sonitpur district.

During his career, he worked in the Assam State Public Works department and retired in the year 2000 as an Executive Engineer. Prior to this role, he served as the deputy director of the Road Research Laboratory in Guwahati for a period.

Late Upadhyaya was the eldest son of the writer and poet Late Tanka Nath Upadhyaya and Late Bhagirathi Devi.

He is survived by his daughter, Manorama Upadhyaya, and sons Capt Gagan Upadhyaya (Retd) and Diwakar Upadhyaya, along with numerous grieving relatives. Among them are his elder sister, Prof Gita Upadhyaya, and brothers Swarup Upadhyaya (former MP, Sonitpur) and Dr Mahendra Upadhyaya.
