Noted Tiwa Writer To Speak On Languages

DIPHU, Sept  29: Noted writer of Tiwa literature and executive member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC)’s animal husbandry and veterinary  department, D Uphing Maslai will participate in the international seminar on ‘Kokborok and Other Languages of North East India’ to be held on  October 1 and 2 at the Tripura Tribal Folk Music College in Khumulwng in Tripura.

The seminar is being organized by Kokborok Kokrwbai Bosong and Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). Maslai will speak in the seminar as a resource person on the subject of the close relationship between Tiwa, Dimasa and Tiprasa languages.

Maslai has written two books on Tiwa language. He has written books including Tiwa Matkhop Sigai Lai , Assamese Word Book,  Mat Sigaina Naw  and Shunmandong – a book narrating his experience of attending school despite opposition from his parents. He also wrote Amsai Pinunge KhamreNem, a book on festival and rituals of the Tiwa, Tuphi Tora, a collection of articles and  Sangar, a book on Tiwa Proverbs.

Currently, Maslai is working on a book on an Anglo- Tiwa – Assamese Trilingual Dictionary.
