GUWAHATI, Oct 7: In two separate operations conducted in Assam’s Karimganj and Kamrup Metropolitan districts, law enforcement authorities apprehended nine individuals and confiscated more than 600 grams of heroin, according to police reports on Saturday.
Acting on a tip-off, the State Police’s Special Task Force executed an operation in the Amtola area of Sonapur, on the outskirts of Guwahati, in the Kamrup Metropolitan district on Saturday morning. They successfully apprehended six suspected drug peddlers, four of whom are residents of Assam, while the other two hail from Meghalaya. The operation resulted in the recovery of 87.4 grams of heroin, stored in thirty plastic vials and three tobacco boxes, from their possession.
Additionally, nine empty vials, one empty tobacco box, five mobile phones, Rs 4,700 in cash, and four syringes were seized during the operation. The arrested individuals and the seized items were handed over to the Sonapur Police Station for further legal action.
In a separate incident, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on social media that three suspected drug peddlers were arrested with heroin in Karimganj district on Friday night. Based on a tip-off, the Karimganj Police conducted a special operation where they seized 568 grams of suspected heroin hidden within 52 soap cases from secret compartments of a vehicle arriving from a neighboring state in Gandharajbari under Ratabari PS. Three individuals have been arrested in connection with this case. (With inputs from PTI)
