SIVASAGAR, June 5: The Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY)—a flagship crop insurance scheme launched by the Government of India in 2016—has been actively implemented across all districts of Assam, including Sivasagar, under the “One Nation, One Scheme” initiative.
In an official release issued on Thursday, the Sivasagar District Agriculture Department urged farmers to take advantage of this opportunity to safeguard their crops against natural calamities by registering under the PMFBY. The scheme allows farmers to insure one hectare of crop land for just Rs 100, making it an affordable and effective risk mitigation tool.
For the year 2025, the district administration has set a target of 26,500 registrations, specifically for the Sali paddy crop, with the last date for enrollment set as July 31.
Farmers have been advised to approach the agents of the General Insurance Company available at the SBI Sivasagar Branch for enrollment. They must carry essential documents, including: Aadhar card, Bank account details, Land records and Mobile number.
Additionally, farmers can contact their nearest Agriculture Office, Agricultural Extension Officers, or Gaon Burhas for further guidance and assistance in the registration process.
The PMFBY aims to provide comprehensive coverage against crop loss due to natural disasters, pests, and diseases, ensuring financial stability for farmers and fostering sustainable agricultural practices.
