GUWAHATI, Aug 25: In a remarkable display of efficiency and determination, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of NF Railway has cracked a shocking murder case within a mere 8 days, apprehending the perpetrator responsible for a heinous crime at Kamakhya railway station.
On August 16, at approximately 14:37 hours, a woman identified as Pompi Sharma Haloi, aged 45 and hailing from Nalbari, was discovered unconscious near a train coach’s restroom at platform no 2 of Kamakhya railway station. Tragically, despite being rushed to a nearby railway hospital, her life could not be saved.
Swiftly responding to the distressing incident, a combined team comprising Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) sprang into action, initiating an intense investigation and search operation aimed at identifying and apprehending the culprit responsible for this heinous act.
The investigation revealed that the victim’s personal belongings, including gold jewellery and a mobile phone, were missing—pointing to the possibility of a robbery being connected to the crime. Utilising advanced technology and keen sleuthing skills, the investigators put the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number of the stolen mobile phone on alert.
The turning point came when the suspect unwittingly used the stolen mobile phone, leading to live tracking. By analysing Signal Data Recording (SDR) and leveraging social media platforms, law enforcement managed to acquire a photograph of the individual who had obtained the new SIM card—a key piece of evidence that further narrowed down the suspect’s identity. Gathering additional information from local sources, the investigators closed in on the culprit’s location.
On Thursday, the meticulously planned operation reached its climax as the joint RPF and GRP team successfully apprehended the criminal near Kamakhya Station. The breakthrough comes as a testament to the relentless dedication and unyielding commitment of the Railway Protection Force to safeguard railway properties and passengers’ safety.
The NF Railway’s RPF has once again demonstrated its prowess in swiftly responding to crimes, ensuring justice prevails and that railway travel remains a safe and secure experience for all.
