GUWAHATI, June 18: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday asserted that in the last three years of his government, several initiatives were undertaken to make the state safe for the citizens.
He said that since May 2021, when the second BJP government was sworn-in, Assam Police arrested 14,593 traffickers and registered 8,855 cases, seizing significant drug quantities.
The chief minister claimed that the government has achieved success in combating corruption also.
According to him, the government’s zero-tolerance policy led to 182 trap cases and 224 arrests, including 206 public servants recovering Rs 6 crore.
Sarma also mentioned about the crackdown on illegal activities in the state, adding, “ Special Task Force operations tackled illegal infiltration, fake currency, gold smuggling, and wildlife crimes, with numerous arrests”.
Taking to his X handle, the chief minister wrote, “In the last 3 years, every effort has been made to make Assam a safe State for all the citizens. From crackdown on drugs and child marriage, to reduction in crimes against women and corruption, we are moving ahead in the right direction.”
