NAGAON, Jan 11: The six-day Kashmiri Youth Exchange Program, organised by Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), Guwahati, in collaboration with Don Bosco Institute (DBI), Guwahati, concluded with a grand ceremony at the DBI campus a few days ago.
The program aimed to provide exposure and interaction opportunities for 132 Kashmiri youths from six districts of Jammu and Kashmir with 60 local youths from North East India.
Biswajit Daimary, the Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly, attended the inaugural session of the program as the chief guest. He praised the efforts of NYKS and DBI for organising such a vibrant program that fosters national integration, communal harmony, and cultural exchange among youths from different regions. He also encouraged the participants to make the best use of the program and learn from each other’s experiences and perspectives. The Speaker hosted the Kashmiri youths at the Assam Legislative Assembly campus, where he arranged a tea party for them.
Father Cletus Sebastian SDB, executive director of DBI, Anil Oraw, regional director of India Tourism, Inkhuanguang, regional director of NYKS, North East Zone, and Promotesh Chakravorty, deputy director of NYKS, were also present.
The function featured Kashmiri folk dance and songs by the participants, showcasing the diversity and richness of their respective cultures. The participants took a pledge to uphold the values of national unity, integrity, and peace among the young people in the country.
The Kashmiri Youth Exchange Program included sessions on national integration, patriotism, nation-building, skill development, communal harmony, Indian Constitution, democracy, rights and duties of citizens, and field visits to Bhutan and various places of interest in and around Guwahati.
The program was part of the government’s efforts to reach out to the youth of the Kashmir Valley and provide them with avenues for their overall development and mainstreaming. The program concluded with a valedictory function this afternoon, a press note stated here.
